Easter Prayer

Like the women at the tomb, we are amazed O God, at this wonderful gift of life you have given us.  We marvel at the words of the angel at the tomb:  “He is not here, he is risen.”  We wonder what this means for our lives…..and we hear the angel say: “Do not be afraid.”

Risen One, help us not to be afraid of new life….help us not to be afraid to enter into the mystery of your resurrection…help us not to be afraid of the change that will inevitably come when we let go of our lives as we know them and entrust them to you.

We shout with all of Christendom:  Alleluia, Christ is risen!  May this acclamation of our faith be the source of our hope in the midst of evil systems, structures and regimes that exist in our world, and yes, even in our very selves.  In the face of what seems like overwhelming odds we do not despair; we cling to the hope of your transforming power that does not always work by the world’s standards.

Source of Life, Jesus is the first-fruit of our own transformation.  The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, dwells in us and works in us.  And so we pray that you give us the wisdom and the willfulness to say “into your hands I commend my spirit.”
